Cortney Merritts, husband of former Congresswoman Cori Bush, has been indicted by the Department of Justice on two counts of wire fraud for allegedly submitting fraudulent applications to obtain COVID relief funds through the Paycheck Protection Program and Economic Injury Disaster Loan. The charges specify that he defrauded the government of over $20,000. This event follows separate scrutiny concerning payments made by Bush to her husband for security services.
