Public states schools just withhold information and teach many, many lies. Hitler ordered that under no circumstances were British towns to be bombed. London was off limits. Ports and harbors were bombed, but no English towns were bombed.

But, Churchill wanted the war, so in response he ordered his British Air force to go in and bomb Berlin. The British Chief of Staff, and the British Commander of the bombers, warned Churchill that if they bombed Berlin, the Hitler might lift his ban on bombing British towns and cities, like London. But he ordered them to bomb Berlin anyway.

The British bombed Berlin for 7 or 8 days, before Hitler finally said, "If you bomb Berlin one more time, we will start bombing your towns and cities back." Well, that was what Churchill wanted--he wanted his own capitol bombed by the Germans, so he ordered the Air force to bomb Berlin again. And, Hitler did what he said he would, and lifted the no-bombing ban and began bombing London, which lead to the instigated deaths of 7,000 civilians in London.
